The choice of furniture in a designer villa has to be a perfect mix of top brand name pieces and custom-made elements. Whether it’s a dining table, a pool table or a small bedside pouf, every piece of furniture has to both have character and perfectly fit the setting. This intricate balance can only be achieved through years of interior design experience and by carefully designing the way furniture will be integrated into the architectural project way ahead of its completion. Fortunately, Bright partners with UDesign who are specialists in bespoke luxury furniture design.
We take a look at some of most striking pieces of furniture across Bright’s projects.
Bubble Chair by Eero Aarnio
What do Carmen Electra, Donatella Versace, the President of Finland and Robbie Williams in his music video “Come undone” have in common? They’ve all sat in ball-shaped chairs created in the 1960’s by Eero Aarnio, a Finnish professor and architect. Once described by the New York Times as “one of the most comfortable forms to hold the human body”, the Bubble Chair recently celebrated half a century, having not just remained an icon of modern interior design but retaining its futuristic look.
Dining table – UDesign, chairs – Viccarbe
This four-metre-long dining table is custom-made by UDesign from a 12 cm thick piece of solid oak. But what turns it into the protagonist of this space is the perfect “marriage” with two solid rows of upholstered Season chairs by Viccarbe. The Season chair, designed by Piero Lissoni, is an outstanding example of contemporary craft that defines classical modernity. The designer himself explains: “It plays with contrast, providing a sober and at the same time comfortable piece of furniture, completely lacking severity. I always do my best to provide a human, live touch to my work.” The model is also a rare find since it comes with hidden wheels, which make it perfect for use in large dining rooms such as the one at Bright’s Vista Lago Residences.
The Swingrest chair by Dedon
The Swingrest chair by Dedon is an extraordinary piece of outdoor furniture, fitting perfectly with the extraordinary property that is Villa Alcuzcuz. One of the first products to have originated in the Dedon outdoor living laboratory based in Philippines, the chair was designed by Daniel Pouzet. Being an architect himself Daniel wanted to come up with an alternative solution to placing furniture in beach villas, where high ceilings provide the perfect structure for hanging. The hanging lounger features an elegant ceiling suspension and is covered with a special fabric that wraps around the exposed pipes.
Pool table by UDesign
This isn’t a sculpture – it’s a fully functioning pool table. Surprised? A bespoke creation by UDesign, it is featured in entertainment zones of several Bright projects.
Nemo outdoor chair by Driade
This unique rotating Nemo outdoor chair was designed by Fabio Novembre for the Italian label Driade over a decade ago. Nemo is Latin for “no one” and the name is anything but accidental. Like a mask, the chair simultaneously conceals and reveals the person sitting inside of it. This piece definitely adds mystery to the perfectly thought out design of the TV area terrace at Villa Alcuzcuz.
Rivera Armchair by Minotti
The Rivera collection suggests a contemporary interpretation of retro elegance, while delivering a typically Mediterranean vibe. Designed specifically for the outside by Rodolfo Dordoni, the armchair rests on a curving metal structure treated for outdoor use, as are the padding materials for the soft cushions that are covered in water-proof fiber. Seamlessly paired with footrest poufs, the armchairs are both sleek and casually inviting.
Tonella chair by Sancal
Sancal has been manufacturing French-style chairs for over four decades, and this model is one of its classics revisited. One might wonder where the notable metal base of the chairs comes from – barrel staves! Sancal is based in Yecla, a wine-growing region in southern Spain, where such aesthetic elements are commonplace. The Swedish design studio Note was selected to give the entire Majestic collection a fresh, innovative angle. They did so by making the chair even more compact – making it a perfect fit for this bedroom corner of Villa Alcuzcuz.
AHNDA pouf by Dedon
AHNDA by Stephen Burks is an outdoor collection that resulted from his immersion into the weaving culture of the Philippines. Having developed a sort of signature open weave using transparent upholstery of weatherproof DEDON fibre, he added a soft top element reminiscent of sunbeds and beach luxury.
