Spain now offers a Digital Nomad visa


Approved by the parliament in November 2022, the Digital Nomad Visa is part of Spain’s new Startup Act. This visa is aimed at attracting digital nomads, freelancers, and remote workers from around the world to live and work in Spain while enjoying its culture, climate, and lifestyle. It is expected to boost the country’s economy and create new opportunities for remote workers.

  • Non-EU Nationals to live and work in the country for up to 5 years

Main Requirements

  • The applicant must have a continuous employment relationship of at least three months with the company they are working with. This company must also certify the job can be done remotely.
  • Both self-employed freelancers with multiple clients and remote workers employed by a single company outside of Spain are eligible for the visa. Applicants are permitted to get a maximum of 20 per cent of their income from Spanish firms.
  • The company or companies with which the digital nomad has a relationship must have been operating in the market for at least 1 year.
  • The applicant must have graduated from a prestigious university or business school, or demonstrate previous working experience of at least 3 years.
  • The applicant must demonstrate the possession of sufficient economic funds (€25,000) via salary or bank statement.
  • The applicant must have private health insurance with full coverage.

Application procedure

  1. Apply: You can submit your application either online, or at a Spanish consulate. Alternatively, you can enter Spain on a tourist visa and apply within the first three months. (Download the application form here)

  3. Wait for processing: The processing time for the digital nomad visa is 20 business days

  • Avoid the need to complete and submit the asset declaration models.

Bear in mind that you need to start the tax application process to obtain the status during the 6 months after you obtain your digital nomad visa.
