Vista Lago Residences is a luxury development of 18 design-led villas in one of the most perfect locations in the world. Overlooking a lake and the Mediterranean Sea beyond, with views of the Rock of Gibraltar and Africa; surrounded by beautiful mountainous terrain that does not obscure the sun, this is an exceptional location in an exceptional part of Southern Europe.
The design team paid an equal amount of attention to the selection of art for each villa as they have done for the designer furniture. Subtle but irreplaceable, art is found everywhere – in the form of paintings, murals, and even lighting.
Abstract painting by Costel Iarca and The Visitor by Gardeco, in the lounge
Costel Iarca is a Romanian artist who lives and exhibits in the US. His modern and bright abstract painting is placed in the lounge as if to mirror the burning flames of the fireplace, or the entering sunshine. “Art is human magic”, – says the artist, and that is definitely reflected in the design of this space. Placed with a lot of thought, the painting is a visual accent in the otherwise tranquil setting.
The jagged sculptural stairway of the lounge complements the flowing shapes of the magnificent ceiling lamp, while the sculptural figures under the stairs chat eternally like a group of Andalusian villagers. These are The Visitor by Gardeco, designed by Guido Deleu. The sculpture was originally created for the main entrance of a cultural centre in Flanders, Belgium. Available in bronze and ceramics, several sizes and more than 40 colours, The Visitor is a great interior design detail to play around with.
Argent Linear Chandelier by Terzani, in the dining room
Argent Linear Suspension, designed by Dodo Arslan for Terzani, creates a shimmering cloud consisting of metal discs that have been meticulously shaped by hand into clusters. Once lit, the multiple, angled surfaces of the discs emanate a soft shimmering white glow. Ephemeral and almost fragile, the chandelier is a perfect fit for the dining area, where the breathtaking view is the centre of attention. Completely see-through and with a capacity to reflect light, it doesn’t take away from the power of nature, it just adds a certain man-made magic.
FLOE wallpaper by Glamora, in the entertainment room
FLOE is a geometric wallpaper from the COLLECTION IX by Glamora, which was inspired by images from the Far East and their ultra-modern interpretation. Placed behind an equally geometric ceiling light, the faded squares mirror the sofa setting, bringing the whole entertainment area together while skilfully distributing visual attention, rather than focusing it.
Natural Mandala Wallpaper, in the master bedroom suite
This room is more than just a space for sleeping in – it’s more like six-star hotel, covering the entire width of the villa. The focal point of the bedroom is this beautiful mandala wallpaper which sets the tone and feel of the room with everything else complementing it. Mirrored by the circular ceiling light by Henge, the mural adds another dimension to the room. Designed from a photograph of an ancient cathedral cupola, it is both puzzling and peaceful.
